We arrive on the eveing of the 6th and could be together that Friday Saturday and Sunday -- I looks like there is avialibity as well. Since it will only be 4 the standard room would work. We already booked our flights so if your coming it makes sence to book the rooms before they are gone.

Taylor, they did not respond to my email so I called them. Sadly, they are completely booked up for April. I reserved rooms for the first week of June for Siobhan and I, but I am sure that is too late for you to come. I think you should fly into London and spend a few days and then take a cheap flight to the continent. They fly from London to Fez, Morroco for 120 dollars return. Spain, Salzburg, Baltics are also options. Sorry for the bad news, we were really looking forward to it. But stop by ENgland on your way to the continent.

Give Me the Word Lincoln and We Are There!
I am going to break one of my own rules and use the blog instead of email. Lincoln first off I am sorry for calling so late tonight -- your wife told me you were already a sleep. Second have you checked on the reservations? I am anxious to book our flights. Levin found us some great ones that leave directly from Detroit with the 12 hour lay- over in Brussels. Since this is Spring break weekend I am worried about the prices going up. What is the deal with the Hotel. Seems real nice but I could figure out if there was a military discount on top. Yes to the loft but no to the in-room hot tub. Let me know if we can book ASAP
Oliver were are very sorry we are not coming to India. The two main reason were the cost, 3 times as expensive and the fact that Shelley wants to come -- probably the last year you are there.

Comments
Taylor, just in case you get could feet and you think that our conversation today on the phone was not inspired, please take a look at this link http://www.edelweisslodgeandresort.com/ We would have great fun, Dachu, Wies, frolicking in the snow, singing sound of Music songs in the lush valleys of Bavaria. You have proven yourself a worthy traveler, but if you actually go thru with this one, you might be considered along side the greats of world travel, among the Lincolns and levins of the family.
Oliver, the deed is done and the stuff is long sent. Please pay 290 in tithing for us. And we needs the electronic tithing information, please.
Jalayne, please ask your husband to define term life insurance?
Levin, I think you should follow my and Ally’s lead and go with money instead of gifts for your wedding. People give more in money than in gifts and you don’t have to settle for someone elses crappy taste. By the way, Blenheim palace is a no go from now on, it cost 9 pounds a person just to get access to the grounds
Lucinda, If you don’t book the rent-a-car soon it will be too late. The longer you wait the more expensive it will be.
Allyson, in all sersiousness, I am very excited about your wedding and Hawaii and all that, but listen where is Cambridge and St. John’s in all of this. Do not lose your perspective my friend, we walked around Oxford today, so impressive
BYU Idaho is
Well I am at work here at Ancestry.com. If any of you would like to get set up with a free trial I can set you up and I get 159.00 worth of commision. It is well worth the one dollar processing fee. Thigns are going really well for Moema and I...we are very blessed. We got our tickets for Hawaii, 240 one way. We also might have found an apartment. Sariah found us one, only 800 month only problem is there is no stove and it is a full sized bed, but we will pray we can get into on campus housing in a few months. I am counting on Moema getting a soccer scholarship to cover his tuition, I mean him just being black should be reason enough:) The time is not too far less than two months, but everday that passes it seems further away. It will be so nice getting MOema out here, the visa is going to be in Joburg soon and then it shouldn't take long to get it all done. Well i enjoy the blogs. keep it up
allyson
The Blog is Back!
I have been so sad lately that there seemed to be a lull in the blog but I am happy to see you are all out there and still have your senses of humor. The comment about Putin was scart, What a guy. Congratulations Spencer and Hyrum on getting your grades up. Not that Grandma loves you more for your performance. I am proud of your "perserverance and dedication". We are so excited that things are progressing with Moema's visa and can't wait to get him over here. Allyson is one lonely girl. But we are making fun wedding plans. I am making her an African quilt which is really turning out beautifully. We had a very spiritual experience doing sealings Thursday for Siobhan's family. We actually sealed her grandparents. About BYU - I totally agree with Lincoln. BYU Idaho is the place to go now and conservative church members are choosing it for more reasons than one. But BYU Hawaii is our new school. How is their football team? Love Mom

Reality is Funnier than Fiction
Russian President Putin met with Israeli Prime Minister Olmert in Moscow yesterday and when the press reporters were leaving the conference room and Putin thought the microphone was off he said the following to Olmert about his embattled Isreali President:
``Greetings to your president. What a powerful man he turns out to be! He raped 10 women, I would never have expected this from him. He surprised us all. We all envy him.''
Later is advisor said "``Yes, these remarks were made indeed,'' Peskov said in a telephone interview from Moscow today. ``No one can seriously approve allegations of raping women and sexual assault. It's a joke in Russian that actually does not reflect the automatic translation into English.''
Putin also joked about it in this way "The microphones were then cut off, but a member of the Israeli delegation told The Associated Press that Putin went on to say of Katsav: “I met him. He didn’t look like a guy who could be with 10 women.”
I love it! In Russia no one cares at all, but if Bush had said it he would resign the next day.

The Answer is BYU Idaho
BYU Idaho is becomming a better school but i reject all critisims of BYU provo. I know mom and Lincoln's favorite subject is to rip on the school that educated them but I gots no problem with poor south americans financing my education. BYU is the greatest school in the world - SO STOP TRYING TO DESTROY IT.
Oliver
Decsions Decsions
Great posting on BYU Lincoln. I say we make those rich bastards pay double. Oops I forgot that Moema is viewing this. I thinkwe should re-think the policy of letting finaces have access to the blog. This is a kin to the orginal Flakes not letting them come to reunions. They should not see all our dirty laundry until they are sealed for T&AE and are stuck. Just joking. I would rather come to India but the tickets are too expensive. I checked and they were 1,800 vs. 450 to England or 500 to Germany. Maybe we should go and see Justin. Oliver if you hear of cheaper tickets tell us and we will make it happen -- make sure your find some cliffs for diving.

Down with Excess
Is it just me or does it seem like the BYUs, especially BYU-Provo has become a school for the elite Mormon (i.e. rich) crowd. There is nothing wrong with this and it is entirely predictable – WHY. Because there is a correlation between high grades and affluent backgrounds. That is the richer the household the higher the GPA. That was all good and dandy and did not matter too much in the 80s and 90s, because BYU admission requirement was still reasonably and comparatively low – hovering around 3.5 GPA. This meant that the correlation between riches and GPA did not really have a noticeable impact on BYU student body. And consequently the BYU student body represented a good cross section of overall Mormon population.
But now things have changed. Now the GPA requirement is so high and the dummy loop-hole via American river college and BAC is no longer available, the correlation is starting to become manifest. Namely, BYU is becoming a rich man’s school, not because tuition is high but because admissions is tight and hyper competitive. You might be asking yourself “so what Lincoln, what is your point, you want to lower admissions requirement?” NO, but my point is that this trend towards rich kids filling all BYU slots effectively means that through tithing subsidies to BYU – THE POOREST OF THE MORMONS WHO HAVE NO CHANCE OF ATTENDING BYU ARE PAYING FOR THE RICHEST MORMONS (WHO DON’T NEED MONETARY ASSISTANCE) TO ATTEND BYU ON THE CHEAP.
It seems to me that church subsidies for BYU students using tithing funds is a complete waste now in light of the make-up of the student body. Listen, all they need to do is figure out the real cost of BYU minus LDS tithing money and require all students who’s father makes more than $100,000 to pay that. Staggered tuition payment according to parent’s income. So poor South American’s that by some miracle do get into BYU still get the cheap Tuition but Jon Huntsman’s kids have to fork out what the education really costs. Seems more reasonable than the current system of reverse consecration, ie the poor paying for the rich.
Wow, I almost did something very very stupid
Sorry I am blogging so much but I am really bored.
Melissa emailed me asking when I am going to give her acess to the blog. And I thought that I would today because whats the harm? I mean Moema has access. But right before I emailed her my password I remembered what likon wrote about our wedding and my response! That would not have been good for her tooo see that!! Wow.
Levin's Dumb Date Fopaws
Okay - so for those who have not heard the story about me being a big fat embarrasment here it is. So on Monday I asked Mellisa if I could go to her Family Home Evening Group with her. I was very nervous because everyone knows her real well and will see we are boyfriend/girlfriend and so I did not want to do anything stupid. Well, right at the climax of the lesson, as a girl was sharing something very spritual, there was a very loud CRACK and everyone turned and looked at me. I had broken the wooden chair I was sitting on. You could have heard a pin drop and I wanted to sink into a hole somewhere - I was so embarresed. And it was this girls nice wooden chair - and I practially turned it into kindling. I told Melissa afterward that if she never wanted to see me again it was justifiable.
Then yesterday I did something else. We were going to cook steaks on her grill - so she turned the gas pretty high and pushed the ignitor button on the grill but it would not light. Finally I said, okay I will light it with this flicker thing (you know where you push the button and a little flame comes out). So I get my hand right over the grill and put the flicker thing deep inside and light it. Well the GAS WAS ON TOO HIGH AND MY WHOLE HAND WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. And I mean engulfed, the flames shot up about 2 feet from the grill and my arm was right in the middle. She screamed something like "LEVIN NOOOOOOO!". Luckily it did not burn me becuase I pulled my arm away soon after but it did singe the hair off of a couple of my fingers and part of my arm. Oh well!
Recording
Since i will be spending time with my honey all weekend could someone (Mom or JaLayne), please record the masterpiece theater for me. Thanks.
Levin
O Horatio, WHere art Thou?
Lincoln is very liberal with my Horatios, and no permission was given Oliver, but since Amber is bedridden and I have very little chance of getting them back from Lincoln anyway, I consent to their voyage to India. I have a hard time believing these "sharpes war" series can live up to my dear Horatios, but I signed up for Netflix and will judge for myself. Taylor, send your boys down this way. There is so much fun and excitement to be had in Bloomington. Need I remind everyone of the endless, free mini-gulf? There are free tours of State Farm Corporate headquarters and David would be happy to explain the ins and outs of the insurance industry--a rare treat by anyones standard. I'm sure Spencer and Hyrum would love it. JaLayne
I cant be rushed!!!
Likon, I disapprove of your use of ALL CAPs to try and rush me into an ill-advised early engagement.
Taylor - I think you should send your boys out on Vetrans day weekend to D.C. Tickets are so cheap - I can show them the historical sites, we can party in my room. I can even take them deep sea fishing on the chesapeak! What say ye? It could be very fun
Contentios question
Oliver does make very convincing points. We would love to have them and there will be plenty to do here, but the Mckay factor is big and so is the fact that we only have one car right now, and not enough room for two extra passangers. It would be a ton of fun though. WE NEED TO KNOW WHEN LEVIN’S WEDDING WILL BE HOWEVER, BEFORE WE CAN PLAN ANYTHING! Oliver please inquire with Amber about tithing. Any advise as to how best to serve in my new capacity as Elders Qourom president?
India is better than England
Taylor - I dont want to offend the provider of my decoder (who will mail it today) but if you choose England over India you need your head examined. Yes Lincoln and his wife are better "hosts" and yes we dont have "manners" or "functioning toilets" or "civilized children" and yes our kids dont "let their scabs heal" or "brush their teeth" but come on England is pratically part of the U.S. and India is another planet. Lets see should you visit game parks, the Taj Majal, Ganges river, Himalayas, world famous sites, and wonderful exotic foods or should you eat kidney pie in some bum british farmers field? Choose ye this day who you will visit but if I was you and I would visit me and my family.
P.S. in case you are not aware - Lincoln has no kids your kids age while Mckay can mix with the best of them.
Oliver
The whole family is seeing the World and I am left out of it!
Lincoln,
I am thinking of sending my boys to England. They have been working hard to earn enough money for a Play Station and I think I have convicend them to use it for a trip. They caught the travle bug from our trip to Brazil. Unfortualy I think India is too expensive. I could come for a week and then maybe leave them for an additional week. The baby in end of Feb is the one scheduling issue. Let me know what you think.
Taylor
Tithing
I will ask Amber - I think she had to provide our membership numbers and they sent the stuff by email.
Oliver
yes, i looked into it, but they never got back to me. How did you sign up, where do I go to get it!
Tithing Evasion
Lincoln, Jalayne has given permission to send Hornblower so please do. Second, I promise to pay my tithing for a full year if if you will just put the dang thing in the Mail - We are dying for some football here ! Amber mentioned Netflix but it takes about 2 or 3 weeks to get mail from here but maybe we will just do it.
P.S. we have electronic thithing payment - direct to Salt Lake. Have you looked into this - it is very conviennt.
Love,
Oliver
Advice
Oliver, first of all, you need to sign up for nexflix. For 12 dollars you get four movies a month sent anywhere. They give you enough time to return them even from overseas embassies. People in my shop that were deployed to uganda lived off of nexflix movies in the bush. Nexflix has all 14 episodes of Sharpe's war. Second, we currently have Jalayne's copy of all the hornblowers, if you'z wants them and gets her permission, we can send them too you.
THird, once I get the tally on the shipping and everything I will tell you. Instead of writing a check, I have the crazy idea of you just paying the money in our name in tithing in your branch - it will equal about what we pay every two weeks

Movies
Lincoln, Where can I buy that mini-series. We have no TV and are desperate for Intertainment. Also where Can I buy Hornblower. Mom why did you steel our Bleak House - I had not seen it yet. Lincoln let me know the cost of shipping and I will send off a check
Oliver
Read Elder Robert C Oak's talk!
Siobhan and I discovered a mini-series that puts Hornblower to shame. It’s called Sharpe’s war and is set in the neopolanic wars and has Sean bean in it. It’s great and there are 14 episodes, each 2 hours long.
Oliver I bought the dam thing and will mail it as soon as possible.
Also I watched united 93 a few nights ago. It’s a must and is only rated r for terror!
Decoder boy where are you?
Lincoln, dont act like you dont read the blog because I know you do - why are you dissen me on my request for the decoder. If the price is not high enough - I will pay more
P.S. We were watching Materpiece theater last night (on DVD) and it was Oliver Twist. Did you know that the date they put on his birth certificate was May 6 ! True story - check it out.
Oliver
Candy Bars and Conference
Mom, Thanks for the Package - Now we can skip church for weeks and not feel guilty. I have already downed two candy bars and not feeling well. Did you send the TCU game with the package or separatly.

Home Safely
Dear Family, I got home safely from taking Grandma to the family reunion in Las Vegas. We had a wonderful trip - Carolyn my sister came too. I did all the driving since Carolyn has a broken arm. Grandma loved the reunion and had a wonderful time seeing all of her cousins. We stayed with her best friend and cousin growing up so she was really happy. We are so sorry that Amber has to be on bed rest already. We need to remember her in our prayers. It is a blessing they are in India where she can hire help to care for her family. I loved the pictures of Levin and Melissa. Wow - what can I say? I hope Preston and Siobhan are feeling better. I am taking your names down tomorrow to get them processed at the Family History Library. Happy Birthday baby Grant. You are so cute - I can't wait to get you in my arms. We need to get the visa ordeal back on our prayer list. It is taking longer than it should to get processed. Love Mom
Message for Lincoln !!!!!!!!!!!!
Lincoln & Siban - Please buy the decoder ASAP and mail it to the following address. You will be eternally blessed for this and we will treat you like Kings when you get to India. I am trying to get a bit of the football season so if you send this this week I will send a CASH bonus. Thanks for the help. The address is

Oliver, a BX decoder cost 285 dollars from our BX. No special permission or anything is needed. Now I don't know if this one would work in India, but I assume it would.

Final List of Postings
Okay, here is the final final list of postings. There are 9 open positions and about 12 people bidding. I am going to list 4 countries on my wish list (and try and lobby hard for the first 2)
Ankara
Buenos Aires
Cairo
Guatemala City
Lagos
Manila
Pretoria
Taipei
Hong Kong
My FINAL LIST
1. Pretoria
2. Manila
3. Buenos Aires
4. Taipei
I am sure that people will put Buenos Aires and Taipei very high so it is very unlikely I would get those since I am putting them low on my list. And I may not get posted at all this year but that would be okay (if things work out with you know who!)

Wedding and Trips the more the merrier I always say
I can't wait to see so many members of my family soon. I've had so little time with Lincoln and Siobhan since there wedding I am so glad we will have this oppurtunity to be together again. The trips are only a side note. Family is what really counts! But I must say Justin this morning was looking pretty trip hungry when he was looking over the blog entry this morning. I think his family will be all but a distant memory when he's backpacking through Europe for 3 months, nothing to weigh him down. It's so awesome that he will still be with my family even though he will be missing out on other family events. I am so happy for our family right now. It's been awhile since the Layne Flake family has had such a huge outpouring of blessings all at once. I can't wait to be with each of you in person soon so we can really revil in it. Even Dad has his job for another day. The question is how long can it continue? I can't wait to see Ally and meet Moema, or should I say live with Moema. And get ready for the wedding. It's interesting that pretty much every member of the family will of attended and graduated from BYU. Except Siobhan, but I still love you. Hey, you served a mission and I didn't so you have that up on me.

From England
Oliver, I have tried to call you several times, but you never home. Yes, unfortunetly, lack of leave, financial considerations, and a herd of visitors coming our way (lulu and the lazy guy, Meomo, and a Siberian friend) all mean that India must be postponed until next year. I am very upset about it. I will have Siobhan call the BX and inquire precisely on the decoder.
How old is Mckay now? Siobhan and I were discussing having you send him over to us for a month when he is out of school. He is old enough to survive a 6 hour nonstop flight to London. He would love our place and would have his own room. Think about it.
Lucinda, please send me all of Justin’s fly details and arrange for the rent-a-car. You also might want to start looking for a place to sleep in London.
For Lincoln
Lincoln, What is this I hear about you cancelling your trip in February to India - you must have a lot of faith that Levin won't mess up this latest dating thing. You should plant on this time next year then.
Can you go down to the BX and see how much a decoder is? and see if you can just buy it or if you need some kind of special permission - I need one but it $500 here and takes a year to come
