BYU parenting video

I've wanted to make some family rules to hopefully improve obedience in our children. I found this short video that BYU made on "Preventing and Correcting Misbehavior" that I know will help me present the rules to the kids a lot more effectively. I was impressed with how well it was put together. I know you are all the model of good parenting but I thought I would post it anyway :)

Thanksgiving

We had so much fun at Oliver and Levin's houses. We took some video clips and thought we would post them to youtube in case anyone is interested. Such a party. Thank you Oliver, Amber, Levin and Melissa for putting us up and making it such a memorable Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving

WE had so much fun at Levin's/Olivers house this Thanksgiving. The food was incredible!!! And it was so fun for Calvin to play with Leah and all the rest of his cousins...they fought over toys sometimes but for the most part played really well together. We went to the horse auction, cut down Christmas trees, ate, played sports, ate some more, went hunting - it was a great time. Thanks so much Levin and Melissa for letting us stay at your place!

I love this NRO article!

Moema with at gun !

Ya Lucinda it is going to be fun with the me and three amatures hunting - there are sure to be casualties in the cross fire. Also, Southern maryland is not know for its opened minded and diverse people - mostly hillbillys so I am worried that when folks see Moema running around the woods with the shotgun they are going to call the police and we will have to bail him out and explain that he was not attempting grand larcany. But seriously, it is supposed to rain all weekend so we may be playing alot of basektball at the chapel and watching football.

Egg Cartons

Allyson and Lucinda - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE bring empty egg cartons with you to Maryland. My eggs overfloweth my refrigerator! We are getting 8 a day now and you can only make German pancakes so often.

Wish we could have been present for the great Turkey Slaughter. I think it should become one of your family traditions. Sounds like Levin and Oliver's houses are the place to be this Thanksgiving, we can't wait to taste a homegrown smoked turkey. I'm sure JaLayne and Taylor's families will have fun to.

Yesterday it was almost 70 degrees, and the leaves are still changing color. It is SO beautiful out here. They told us before we came here that Virginia is known to have the longest Springs and Autumns. You should come visit next fall, it is SO amazing.

Turkey day part 2

Jared helping to clean the turkey, and the finished products. Ally/Moema and Justin/LuLus families will be eating these 40 pound birds on Thursday

Turkey Slaughter Day Part 1

It was turkey slaughter day yesterday and we killed/processed all 6 turkeys (3 weighed 40 pounds each cleaned!!). These pictures are backwards but as you can see first step was the killing, then handing, boiling in a pot to lossen the feathers, than the plucking...

Interesting Factoid

Congress gets collegiate: top 10 ten schools on the Hill

It's a coastal battle for which school churned out the most undergrads to serve currently in congress, and the Eastern Seaboard is winning out by a hair - or a diploma. Harvard University tops the "Top 10 Colleges for Members of Congress" list released recently by US News & World Report.

Fifteen members of congress earned their degree at Harvard, while Stanford University in California was second on the list with eleven. Only two Ivy League schools made the list (Yale joined Harvard), and in a surprise appearance, Brigham Young University in Utah was a tie for tenth with five current members from four different states.

I found this quote by Fanny Longfellow (the poet's wife) that I though you'd
> like:
> "My little Charley is now nearly four years old, and yesterday ... I spoke to
> him for the first time of loving and obeying another being than his earthly
> parents. ... It is with great awe and timidity I venture upon planting the
> first seeds of that faith which is to be the life of my child's soul forever.
> ... I never taught before a virgin soul, and most holy and precious does my
> office seem to me."

They sure do!!

We loved Natalya's quick thinking response. Last night in Family home evening Grandma was dividing teams and in doing so said, "But, remember, Evan doesn't count". Evan immediately reacted by saying, "Oh yes I do", and proceeded to demonstrate with, "One, two, three, four, etc.".

Kids say the damndest things

I was watching TV and Ryan came up to me all upset and said that Natalya called him a freaken liar so I called Natalya up and said did you call him a freaken liar. Natalya was scared and could sense an imminent punishment so she said “no I called him chicken wire” I knew she was lying but it was such a clever comeback that I let her go with just a warning.
